Atlanta, GA — Synchronicity Theatre is thrilled to kick off its 2024-2025 season with a bang, presenting the wildly funny political farce POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive, by Selina Fillinger. Running from October 4-27, 2024, this Broadway hit is a riotous, razor-sharp satire about the women in the White House who are the real backbone of politics.
Directed by Synchronicity’s Producing Artistic Director and Co-Founder Rachel May, POTUS features an all-star cast of Atlanta’s favorite talents, guaranteed to keep audiences in stitches as they explore what happens behind the scenes at
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Fresh off its Broadway run, POTUS is a hilarious deep-dive into a day of political crisis, with a cast of women doing everything they can to save face—and save the world.
The show is assistant directed by Dad’s Garage Associate Artistic Director Eve Krueger.
“The cast we’ve assembled for POTUS is incredible,” says May. “It’s a dream team of Atlanta comedy
heavyweights, and they’re bringing this politically charged comedy to life with energy, wit, and heart. I love that the playwright skewers everyone in the play, not just one political party or another. This play and these women know how to bring the laughs, and with everything going on in the world, we could all use some belly laughs right now.”
This incredible ensemble cast includes: Kelly Criss, Wendy Melkonian, Marcie Millard, Brittani Minnieweather, Camille Monae, Jordan Postal, and Gina Rickicki; and swings Haley Covington, Courtney Locke, Courtney Loner, and
Tatyana Mack. The design dream team includes Alexander Whittenberg and Gavin Mosier (Set), Tierney Breedlove (Props), Savannah Cobb (Costumes), Dan Bauman (Sound), and Maliya McCall (Lights). The show is stage managed by
Ashley Freeman, with Vallea S. Woodbury as Production Manager.
Synchronicity Theatre’s mission to spotlight underrepresented voices and create dialogue through storytelling is front and center in POTUS. This production gives voice to the women in the room, exploring the resilience and quick thinking required to survive—and thrive—in male-dominated spaces. POTUS is political satire at its best: fast, fearless, and timely.
As Atlanta hurtles into election season, POTUS taps into the current cultural conversation with a refreshing sense of humor. The show’s irreverence offers a space for audiences from all political backgrounds to laugh at the absurdities of power
dynamics while taking stock of the realities many women face in high-pressure environments.
SYNCHRONICITY THEATRE: COMEDY WITH A CAUSE
As always, Synchronicity is committed to using theater as a platform for change. POTUS is more than just a comedy; it aligns with the theater’s core mission of fostering empathy, understanding, and dialogue. POTUS is not just about laughter—though it promises plenty of it—it’s also about giving women their due, showcasing how they navigate the complexities of politics, leadership, and power.
