Swing Into Spooky Season With Sweeney Todd!

Speakeysie News Desk

WOODSTOCK GA, — Get into the Spooky Season spirit with Woodstock Arts this month as they stage the hit musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street! The infamous tale of Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to 19th century London, seeking vengeance, leading him to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful owner of a failing pie shop, whose luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies… and the tale has only just begun!

“When planning the Season of Wonder I knew that I wanted something that felt like it had to be done in October,” says Artistic Director Zach Stolz. “I wanted a show that evokes as many versions of wonder in our audience as possible, and Sweeney does that! It’s hilarious, it’s dark, it’s a melodrama, it’s a musical, it’s an opera, it’s bloody, spooky, and bright all in one. I knew that our audience was ready for a show that felt massive, but also deeply attainable and proves that we are doing something really special here at Woodstock Arts.”

Audiences may be familiar with the Tim Burton movie version of the show, but the Woodstock Arts production promises to provide new thrills, and a brand-new approach to the costumes, lights, and set that audiences have never seen before.
With Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30 PM and Sunday shows at 2:30 PM, Sweeney Todd is the perfect show for anyone looking to get the thrills and chills of the fall season rolling! This hilarious, scary, wild, and adventurous show is a natural fit with Woodstock Arts’ Season of Wonder – as they invite audiences to come and wonder just what comes next, and wonder at the scale of this show – the biggest that Woodstock Arts has put on yet! Guaranteed to have your jaws dropping, your pulses racing, and sides splitting with laughter, this show will keep the Woodstock Arts audience on the edges of their seats!

Sweeney Todd will be running on the Woodstock Arts’ stage October 4 – 20, 2024. Tickets are available on woodstockarts.org and are for sale at the door. The show runs approximately two and a half hours with an intermission included and it is recommended for ages 12 and up.
