Speakeysie News Desk

Dunwoody, GA – In December, Stage Door will be presenting a new adaptation of one of the most beloved stories of all time: A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Adapted by local playwright Claire F. Martin and directed by frequent Stage Door collaborator Lauren Morris, this will be a perfect show for families to indulge in some holiday cheer!

This lyrical new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ beloved 1843 novella embraces the magic of theater and the power of ensemble, with just seven actors illuminating the iconic text of A Christmas Carol as a gift from the past that helps us imagine a more generous future. The show will run December 6-21 and tickets are on sale now at https://stagedoortheatrega.org/a-christmas-carol/

“When Lauren first came to me about adapting A Christmas Carol, I was struck by her vision of treating the play as a spiritual event: a Yuletide ritual of redemption, in which a community of souls comes together to aid in the transformation of one of their own”, says adapter Claire F. Martin
(Fresh off another Suzi Nomination for Outstanding World Premiere Production of her recent PRIDE AND PREJUDICE). “I think it will be thrilling for audiences to witness a production of CAROL that invites them to reconsider (and perhaps newly appreciate) everything they think they know about this beloved and iconic story.”

Director Lauren Morris adds “There really is something about this story that is irresistibly human and universal…Now, more than ever, this story is a lifeline back to the best we can be as humans. Our brilliant company of seven actors will imbue our telling with music, theatrical magic, and physical storytelling. During the darkest time of the year we will invite our audiences into this ritual to remind them—and ourselves—that the light always returns.”

Artistic director Justin Ball shares “This story of redemption speaks to everyone and the magical spectacle of it will delight younger audiences (And maybe even bring out the child in you). Lauren and Claire’s adaptation will be presented in a fresh way but the heart of the story remains the same. A story that wishes a merry season to every single one of us. We hope you’ll make Stage Door’s version a new family holiday tradition.”
