You have a few more chances to see Beauty and the Beast at Lumpkin County. Last night’s sold out crowd tells the story. Beautiful sets and costumes, an energetic ensemble, and a favorite story come together for an enjoyable performance. Director Coleen Quigley has been a revered member of our Northeast Georgia Theatre community for many years, and she continues to mold and inspire future thespians. It’s always admirable to see a school perform a full version of a Disney classic as opposed to a Disney Junior show, and these students were up to the challenge. There were quite a few “Key Noteworthy” performances: Jackson Mize as The Beast is blessed with an absolutely beautiful baritone voice; Sam Manley in the part of Cogsworth played her part like clockwork (see what I did there?); Aaron Covert as the very full of himself Gaston paired with Halli Rider whose comedic timing was spot on as Lefou; Nikki Wilkes was fun and convincing as the feathery Babette; and Taylor Prest as Belle has a sweet high register in her voice. I was not fortunate enough to see Malory Young play Belle, but I’m told they are both equally talented. To enjoy a tale as old as time, head over to Lumpkin County High School tonight at 7:00 PM or tomorrow at 3:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased online at https://lchsda.booktix.com/ or at the door.
