Review: Golden Bee’s Ragtime Piano Man is Buzzing!!

Sing along anyone?? Head on over to The Golden Bee

This English Pub is located at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Opened in 1961, the interior of solid mahogany was shipped from England to New York and found in storage in the early 1960s. This beautiful decor and bar were shipped piece by piece to the Broadmoor to create what today is rated a “must visit” by trip advisor.

The pub itself has a late 1800s old west atmosphere, the fare is reasonably priced, and patrons can even partake in half yard and yard beers, but perhaps the best part of the pub is the piano man, Bud Kreuzer.

Bud plays ragtime piano that is sure to have Scott Joplin smiling in from the other side. He plays a repertoire of over 100 songs by heart, including fight songs of all the major schools to the delight of tourists. Ragtime piano begins at 7:30 pm, with a singalong from 9:00-midnight 7 days a week.

Patrons are given slips of paper to make requests for songs. The unspoken rate for a request is $1.00 per song. They are given songbooks to sing along. The repertoire includes old standards: My Wild Irish Rose, Yankee Doodle Dandy, You are my Sunshine and As Time goes by; as well as newer favorites: Leaving on a Jet Plane, O-bla-di, O-bla-da, and (of course) Piano Man.

Not only is Bud a stellar piano man, he also connects with his audience by coming over and talking to them. When he finds a connection between one table and another, he makes an introduction. By the end of the evening, patrons have made new friends, have sung until their voices are hoarse, and have created an enduring memory.
