Review: Atlanta Lyric’s “Your Happy Holiday” is a Seasonal Treat

by Jody Key – Managing Editor

Ready for some holiday entertainment? Atlanta Lyric Theatre’s “Your Happy Holiday” opened last night to a delighted crowd. With a live band on stage and a cheerful holiday backdrop, some of Atlanta’s best talent has been assembled to bring you all your favorite Christmas songs, both old an new. This is a feel-good show that will really get you into the holiday spirit.

Under the direction of Mary Nye Bennett, this show has it all–traditional Christmas hymns, contemporary tunes, acapella arrangements, and new twists on old favorites. The music was arranged and directed by Amanda Wansa Morgan. She plays piano beautifully and even shares her amazing vocals with us in a rollicking version of “Run, Run, Rudolph”. What a treat to enjoy a live band in addition to all the amazing singers and dancers. Choreography by Ricardo Aponte is delightful and truly showcases the dance ensemble. The vocals are wonderful, whether a solo, duet, or ensemble number. Be sure and venture into the lobby at intermission as the music continues with a few cast members singing more acapella tunes. Bravo to the whole cast and crew for a truly enjoyable experience.
