The hot theater ticket in Gainesville this weekend is at Brenau’s Downtown Center where Lakeview Academy is presenting Disney’s Newsies the Musical. Set in the late 1800s and loosely based on the newspaper hawker’s strike in New York, Newsies is a musical that took Broadway by storm in 2012. Even if you’ve recently seen this show, the story and songs are so well written, you’ll want to see it again, and now you have that chance. Director Cece Conrath and her team have once again produced a high school show that is highly entertaining with showstopping song and dance numbers, an unlikely hero and a dastardly villain, and a blossoming love story. This show is Speakeysie recommended and fun for the whole family.
