ATLANTA – The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) continues its 2021/22 season with the Delta Classical Series on February 3 and 5 as guest conductor Carlos Kalmar taps into the dance traditions of Uruguay and Vienna, leading the ASO in Schubert’s haunting “Unfinished” Symphony. Accordionist Ksenija Sidorova returns to perform Piazzolla’s Aconcagua. Thursday evening will also include a pre-concert chamber performance, free for all weekend ticket holders.
On February 10, 12 and 13, conductor, violinist and vocalist Dmitry Sinkovsky demonstrates his skill, conducting the orchestra while playing Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto, Il favorito, and then using his amazing countertenor to duet with Atlanta-based Georgia Jarman, a veteran soprano of the international stage. Also on the program, Mozart’s majestic “Jupiter” Symphony.
On February 24 and 26, Principal Guest Conductor Donald Runnicles leads the ASO and Principal Viola Zhenwei Shi in performances of Walton’s Viola Concerto. The program also features Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3, “Scottish.”
During the month of February, the Delta Atlanta Symphony Hall LIVE Series welcomes The Marshall Tucker Band on February 4, The You and Me Tour: An Evening with Drew and Ellie Holcomb on February 14, Rick Springfield with the ASO on February 16, and more. The Movies is Concert with the ASO Series returns on February 18 and 19 with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire™, the fourth film in the Harry Potter series. Justin Freer will conduct the ASO in a performance of the magical score live while the entire film plays in high-definition on a 40-foot screen.
The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO) will hold its annual Crescendo Concert, on February 27, led by Associate Conductor and ASYO Music Director Jerry Hou. The program includes performances of Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte and Huang Ruo’s Folk Songs for Orchestra, plus Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8.
