ATLANTA – The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) continues its Delta Classical Series on May 12 and 14, as Principal Cello Rainer Eudeikis performs Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1. The program, led by guest conductor Alexander Soddy, also includes Anna Clyne’s Sound and Fury and Elgar’s Enigma Variations. On May 19 and 20, guest conductor Nicola Luisotti leads the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra through selections of Verdi’s operatic masterpieces, Rigoletto and Aida. The performance will feature all-star soloists Michelle Bradley (soprano), Jasmine Habersham (soprano), Denyce Graves (mezzo-soprano), Santiago Ballerini (tenor), Clay Hilley (tenor), Reginald Smith, Jr. (baritone) and Burak Bilgili (bass).
On May 26 and 28, Nicola Luisotti returns to lead Principal Oboe Elizabeth Koch Tiscione and the ASO in Marcello’s Oboe Concerto. The program also includes Elisabetta Brusa’s Adagio and Brahms’ Symphony No. 4.
Acclaimed violinist Itzhak Perlman returns for a special one-night performance with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor Nicola Luisotti on May 21. Patrons may purchase concert-only tickets, or enjoy the performance as part of the 2022 Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Gala, which directly supports the ASO’s education and community initiatives. Gala guests will enjoy dinner, drinks, dancing and world-class music. The event will honor beloved community leader and Talent Development Program co-founder Azira G. On May 1, the ASO travels to University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall. Principal Guest Conductor Donald Runnicles leads the Orchestra, Concertmaster David Coucheron and Principal Harp Elisabeth Remy Johnson in Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy. The program closes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, “Eroica.”
On May 8, the talented young siblings Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason make a stop at Atlanta Symphony Hall on their recital tour of the US & Canada. The program includes cello sonatas from Beethoven, Shostakovich, Bridge and Britten. The recital is also offered as an UpTempo Teen Night for middle and high school students, which features a pre-concert event with host Okorie “OKCello” Johnson and special guests. On May 14, the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra’s season culminates with its annual Finale Concert. Showcasing the young musicians’ talents under ASYO Music Director Jerry Hou’s direction, the program includes two pieces featuring ASYO Concerto Competition winners, Tobias Liu and Jonathan Fuller.
