Gwinnett arts destination’s line-up features festive, fun events to celebrate the season

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Nov. 29, 2022) – The warmth of the holidays has arrived at the Lawrenceville Arts Center. Aurora Theatre staples A Christmas Carol and the Festival of Trees return to ring in the season along with hilarious Aurora alum Dulcé Sloan who will star in the NYE Comedy Spectacular. The 2022 edition of Christmas Canteen will also continue this month, running through Dec. 23. Teatro Aurora’s holiday offerings include holiday traditions from Colombia and Puerto Rico with Noche de Velas and Club Babalú Parranda Navideña. Meanwhile, Aurora Children’s Playhouse celebrates December with three entertaining shows: a new twist on ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, a spectacular North Pole talent show with The North Pole Fa-La-La-La Follies and Rob Anglin’s Holiday Juggling Show. Audiences of all ages can join Aurora’s touring troop for one-night-only engagement at the theatre with Blitzen’s Reindeer Games. Aurora favorites Akrosphere Aerial & Circus Arts will present Datsuzoku, while shows from Michelle Malone & the Hot Toddies and Motown Christmas will jazz up the holidays. Rounding out the month, Southern Ballet Theatre will present its rendition of The Nutcracker.

Back for a 16th year, Aurora Theatre Co-Founder Anthony Rodriquez’ unforgettable one-man A Christmas Carol returns with a twist that can’t be missed. Audiences will be immersed in the holiday classic as Anthony’s mesmerizing storytelling is enhanced with state-of-the-art-technology in the Bartow & Leslie Morgan Cabaret at Lawrenceville Arts Center. This can’t-miss production brings a new element while maintaining an intimate feel that captures the true spirit of Christmas!

Festival of Trees
Friday, Nov. 25 – Thursday, Dec. 22

Over 40 trees – the highest participation for a Festival of Trees to date – will deck the halls of the Lawrenceville Arts Center. From the whimsically clever to the breathtakingly spectacular, these trees have been decorated by local businesses and organizations to inspire helping others this holiday season. Attendees are encouraged to bring new unwrapped toy or non-perishable grocery items to place under their favorite tree. Donations will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrenceville, local community food banks and the outreach efforts of BLACT ATL, Inc.

Blitzen’s Reindeer Games
Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.

Blitzen’s Reindeer Games is the only public performance from the spectacularly popular Reindeer Games performance group! Audiences will enjoy cheery carols and holiday-themed improv with a talented cast that includes current AppCo and AppCo alumni. This entertaining, side-splitting evening is bursting with Christmas glee!

Reindeer Games

Aurora Theatre brings holiday magic to gatherings this month with Reindeer Games! This group of talented performers can be hired to engage guests in amusing, interactive improv comedy and festive tunes. ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

Piccadilly Puppets presents a brand-new take on the classic holiday poem penned by Clement C. Moore more than 100 years ago. In this version performed with hand puppets, families will learn the real story of that famous night from a mouse who was an eyewitness to the whole affair. A merry tale with lots of silly twists and turns, this adorable show is sure to entertain and amuse children of all ages.

Aurora welcomes Akrosphere Aerial & Circus Arts as they present Datsuzoku, a dazzling holiday show for the entire family. This cirque-style performance embraces the Japanese principle of Datsuzoku – “to escape from the daily routine” – and will give audiences the feeling of transcending the ordinary and conventional. The show features the unexpected wonders, jaw-dropping feats of skill and expert storytelling that has become synonymous with Akrosphere Aerial & Circus Arts.
