ATLANTA – North Georgia Shakespeare will be presenting two pop-up performances of ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE AND SHAKESPEARE and tickets are limited, so get yours ASAP.

Friendships, Rivalries, and the Riot of the Century, North Georgia Shakespeare is thrilled to be launching our Pop Up Shakespeare Series with this immersive evening of art and theatre.

Audiences will enjoy drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and live cello music while four professional actors bring Shakespeare’s most belovedscenes to life.

This new comedy centers on Victorian historical figures William Macready, Charlotte Cushman, and Helena Faucit as they attempt to champion compassion against the surging tide of division that caused the Astor Place Riot.

CHARACTERS

William Charles Macready [Dean Courtis] – A visionary and a successful actor, the first modern director, a man whose era of influence is slipping away. Takes on Orsino, Benedick, Romeo, and Macbeth. British.

Charlotte Cushman [Bridget McCarthy] – A bold and vital actor, flaunts her unconventional life while society usually chooses to look the other way. Hamlet, and Lady M. American. Steps into Romeo,

Helena Faucit [Ruth Mehari] – An insightful and compassionate actor, steel under lace. Plays Portia, Juliet, Beatrice, and Imogen. British.

Edwin Forrest [Chris Hecke]– A rugged and fiery actor, carrying the torch of the American Dream. Tackles Richard III, Iachimo, and Macbeth. American.

HISTORY

In 2019 Dean Coutris started producing enhanced readings of Shakespeare’s plays with Colt Chambers at the Alley Stage in Marietta. As support for these rollicking events grew,

Amelia Fischer joined Dean to create North Georgia Shakespeare, LLC on January 1st of 2025. The readings became the celebrated monthly ShakesBEER series, performing in Marietta, Dunwoody, and Norcross.

In June of 2025 North Georgia Shakes partnered with Synchronicity Theatre to promote one night of their THE DARK LADY run as a fundraiser for NG Shakes. We connected with a lot of new Shakespeare supporters and helped generate one of the largest houses of their three week run, second only to Opening Night.

In December of 2025 we were honored to be invited to perform for the members of the rigorous Anne Hudgins Shakespeare Class.

Our ShakesBEER Enhanced Reading Series just completed its second season, featuring 20 rollicking performances of 12 of Billy Shakes’ plays employing 65 professional actors for an audience reach of over 1400.

We draw audiences from all over the state, some are Shakespeare fans looking for fun new way to connect with these stories, some are experiencing Shakespeare’s text for the very first time.

New partnerships for 2026 include: The Reading Attic, Muse & Co Fine Art,Sycamore Place Galleries, Oak Street Bottle Shop, and Discovery Stage Company.
