Gainesville Theatre Alliance’s February Festival Includes Famed Broadway Musical and World Premiere Script

Speakeysie News Desk 1/27/2019

GAINESVILLE, GA

Gainesville Theatre Alliance will present two productions in February as part of their annual February Festival of Theatre. The Broadway musical Pippin will perform at Brenau University’s Hosch Theatre, while the world premiere of a Gay H. Hammond script, The Bra and Panty Club, will perform in UNG-Gainesville’s Ed Cabell Theatre. Both shows are part of GTA’s 40th Anniversary season.

The magical musical Pippin is the story of one man’s journey to be extraordinary. As told by a traveling troupe of actors led by the cunning and charming Leading Player, Pippin guides audiences through the adventures of war, sex, politics, and love. With an infectiously unforgettable score from musical theatre giant Stephen Schwartz and classic choreography from Bob Fosse, Pippin reveals that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but in the ordinary moments that happen every day. Rated PG-13.

Southern comedy The Bra and Panty Club is a classic fairytale with a modern makeover. Addie has worked for three years in the lingerie department of the best department store in the second-best mall in town. In this off-kilter comedy, Addie must cope with ridiculous co-workers and customers, office politics, an unexpected Prince Charming and a bomb scare (maybe). Surrounded by half-priced lingerie and uncomfortable truths, Sleeping Beauty is given an unexpected, and much needed, wake up call. Rated PG.

Pippin opens Tuesday, February 11 at 7:30 pm, at Brenau University’s Hosch Theatre in the John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts, 429 Academy St NE, Gainesville, GA. The show will run through February 22. Tickets are $28-30 for adults, $26-28 for seniors, and $18-20 for students. A free meet-the-actors reception catered by 2 Dog Café will follow the opening night performance.

The Bra and Panty Club opens Friday, February 14 at 7:30 pm, at University of North Georgia-Gainesville’s Ed Cabell Theatre in the Performing Arts/Continuing Education building, 3820 Mundy Mill Rd, Oakwood, GA. The show will run through February 22. Tickets are $18-20 for adults, $16-18 for seniors, and $12-14 for students. A free meet-the-actors reception catered by All Catered Events will follow the opening night performance.
